Does the Law of Attraction work? It’s one of the most common questions I hear, and I understand why people ask. There’s a lot of confusion and misinformation out there. Some people swear by it. Others roll their eyes. And many more tried it for a few weeks, didn’t see results, and decided it was nonsense.
As someone who has lived the Law of Attraction and coached hundreds of people on it, I can tell you from personal experience: yes, the Law of Attraction absolutely works. But probably not the way you think. Most of the frustration people feel comes from misunderstanding how it actually operates. Let me clear up the 5 biggest myths.
Myth 1: The Law of Attraction Doesn’t Work
This is the most common misconception, and it usually comes from people who tried it briefly and gave up. Here’s the thing: the Law of Attraction isn’t something you “try.” It’s a universal law that’s operating all the time, whether you believe in it or not. It responds to your vibration 24/7.
When someone says “I tried the Law of Attraction and it didn’t work,” what they usually mean is “I thought positively for two weeks and didn’t manifest a million dollars.” That’s not how it works.
I had a coaching client who came to me saying exactly this. He wanted to attract a life partner and claimed the Law of Attraction failed him. After explaining how it really works and coaching him on the right techniques, he started attracting wonderful potential partners within about a month. He’s now happily married. The Law of Attraction didn’t fail him. He just needed to understand how to use it properly.

Myth 2: The Law of Attraction Is a Short-Term Thing
Some people treat the Law of Attraction like a diet: they do it intensely for a few weeks and then go back to their old ways. That doesn’t work for diets, and it doesn’t work for the Law of Attraction either.
Since the Law of Attraction operates continuously, maintaining awareness of your vibration (your emotional state) is something you do all the time, not just when you’re actively “manifesting.” Once you live your life from a Law of Attraction point of view, it becomes second nature. And it only gets better.
The people who get the most out of the Law of Attraction are the ones who use it in their everyday life, not just when they want something specific. They set positive intentions each morning. They redirect negative thoughts throughout the day. They practice gratitude consistently. It becomes a way of living, not a one-time exercise.
Myth 3: You Don’t Have to Do Anything to Attract What You Want
This is a big one. Some people think the Law of Attraction means you just sit on your couch, think positive thoughts, and wait for things to magically appear. That’s not how it works.
Deliberately maintaining a high vibration and focusing intentionally on your desires actually requires significant energy and practice. And here’s what most people miss: when you’re truly aligned with what you want, you feel inspired to take action. The right opportunities show up, and you feel motivated to pursue them.
The Law of Attraction brings you the opportunities. You still have to act on them. Think of it as a partnership. You provide the vibration, the universe provides the circumstances, and then you take inspired action. All three pieces are necessary.
This is why having the right manifestation techniques matters. They help you maintain the vibration that attracts the right opportunities, and then you’re in the right mindset to act on them when they arrive.
Myth 4: Everyone Who Talks About It Actually Understands It
There are many so-called experts who lack deep understanding of the Law of Attraction. With social media, anyone can make a video and call themselves an expert. But knowing a few concepts isn’t the same as truly understanding and living this philosophy.
You have to live the Law of Attraction to really know about it. Surface-level knowledge is like learning incomplete math fundamentals. You might be able to do basic problems, but when things get complex, you’re lost.
This is why I always recommend working with someone who has genuine experience, both in their own life and in coaching others. The difference between someone who read a book about the Law of Attraction and someone who has practiced it daily for years is enormous. If you’re considering working with a coach, read my post on why hiring a life coach and what to look for.
Myth 5: The Law of Attraction Is a New Concept
Many people think the Law of Attraction started with “The Secret” in 2006. While that book and movie did bring it to a massive audience, the concept has been around for well over a century.
The term originated with Prentice Mulford in 1891, and the ideas behind it have been explored by countless authors and thinkers since then: William Walker Atkinson, Napoleon Hill, Norman Vincent Peale, Louise Hay, and Abraham-Hicks, to name just a few. Some even believe that biblical references to “like attracts like” predate all modern usage.
The fact that this concept has been studied, written about, and practiced for over 130 years should tell you something about its validity. It’s not a trend. It’s a universal principle that has stood the test of time. You can read the full timeline in my post about the history of the Law of Attraction.
So Does the Law of Attraction Actually Work?
Yes. Without question. But it requires three things:
Understanding. You need to truly grasp how it works, not just the surface-level version. It’s about your overall vibration, which includes your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and expectations.
Consistency. You can’t think positively for two weeks and expect years of negative programming to disappear. It takes consistent practice to shift your dominant vibration.
Patience. Manifestation doesn’t always happen on your timeline. But when you maintain the right vibration, it always happens. Every time.
I’ve seen it work for manifesting money, attracting love, getting unstuck in life, and every other area you can imagine. The Law of Attraction is real, and it works when you know what to do.
